Lovely Bones....and other %%%% editorial tittles

Death gets a makeover? Sometimes the themes for editorials are a bit well idiotic but hey at least it’s well executed, sorry it’s just it reminds me of the book/movie The Lovely Bones ¿have you seen it? That little movie breaks you heart…sad to think how something so fictional can be real for so many every day –the earth part not the heaven part- if you have not seen it I recommend it. Abby looks quite lovely indeed and the accessories are stunning,
It’s a great title but it reminds me too much of the story so yeah the bones in the jewelry are indeed lovely oh well whatever lets just stare at the pretty bling shall we?

Dressing the Gym Rat!

A few days a week I wake up with the desire to get a good work out, the trees, birds and the air in your face however now thanks to the constant rain and/or hellish heat that means moving the operations inside…ahhh the joy of the gym for all of us ¿right? NOT

I hate the gym for the most part; it makes for an entrapment feeling, nowhere to look at but mirrors, machines or other sweaty visitors, well this last part is good if it’s a hot sweaty one jeje, the only part I really like are the classes that involve moving around in an attempt to coordinate yourself, you get so busy trying to follow you forget were you are, loose a good amount of calories and indulge with looking at yourself in the mirror for a while with that befitting flush on your cheeks the only thing you need on your face is lip gloss.
But for most of my friends the gym is torture for a whole different set of things, like their own distorted body image accentuated by the toned bodies one often encounters at the gym and the paranoia that everyone else is looking at them as they do. So as a service to my lovely friends and the community lets share the way to get ready for the “I don’t see any flaws in my body and I come to the gym only for fun” battle.

So here goes the check list:
1- Always wear lip gloss (for some reason this gets me in the mood after all exercise is all about working to make yourself pretty) but please avoid any other makeup,
2- Say no to tight clothes in areas were they enhance problem areas,
3- Say no to clothes that need constant readjustments,
4- even if flirting only with your image on the mirror always sport cute hair, this means hair bands, barrettes or a cute baseball cap whatever prevents you from looking like you’ve just finished a street fight,
5- Comparing yourself to others is not allowed,
6- No xxl old t-shirts,
7- No camel toe inducing pants, 8- try to approach the gym rat look the way you do about cocktail night: coordination is key and most important is
9- Smile on the inside and congratulate yourself on the effort!

After all it’s not like we can all have Adriana Lima’s looks but we can pretend we do for the sake of being happy with ourselves without going into denial and start wearing bikinis to our workout sessions.
And to end this seemingly never-ending post....some outfits that make me smile, which are pretty close to what I wear when mustering the stamina to hit the treadmill normally my look is a cross between a boxer and a ballerina not the hooker chic which is all the rage at most facilities, don’t know who gave the green light to looking like a street walker minus heels anyways may not be intentional ¿right?

Coral-esque flats

I find myself fantasizing about these Melissa flats ever since they grazed my screen, one wonders though if they would overheat and hurt the feet if exposed to high temperatures…

my shorty-short reflexion on the spring female

Last night I finally decided to watch the Princess and The Frog and I wanted to share because even if the musical numbers were not as memorable as the ones from The Little Mermaid or Beauty and The Beast it kept me entertained for the length of the flick but there was one thing I found more interesting, the depiction of women in the story, to my surprise all the female characters were positive portrayals no evil witch or self esteem lacking rival or envious anyone, which is amazing as Disney films tend to have questionable female interaction. In all fairness films like B&TB had no females other than Beauty unless you count Mrs. Teapot or Aladdin we besides Jasmine there is no other female in sight or Mulan again either no females or they are evil bitches trying to outshine the main girl.
Well in all fairness the ¿best friend? Seems to be on a man hunting agenda, but still kind hearted and good.
My point with all this is the perception of the roles of women has improved and to be honest even if I grew up watching Ariel throw her life away to follow some dude to land that did not affect me negatively but its still nice to think little girls around the world are been given stronger influences.
And how does this relate to fashion you ask, well it seems to be in harmony with all the ruffles we saw for spring –tired of it already? Suck it up as it is the season at hand- lots of sweetness but with a sexy edge, more than meets the eyes with slits and transparencies.
Its sugar 40% and spice 60% delicious!

I wanna be there....

Today the weather is vindictive, it’s hot inferno, I bet it’s punishment for polluting the Earth like we have or maybe it’s just march…in any case my fantasy today is escaping to a field of tempered climate and lush flowers throw in strawberries and cream plus Erdem’s flowery confection and it is paradise!

The lips of spring summer 2010

I have almost all my bases covered when it comes to spring summer lip trends:
• Red Lips: Fire by Omnilife (Health brand) + matching liner
• Hot Pink Lips: Kabuki by Chanel
• Orangey Lips: ¿¿¿¿???? NOTHING for this look I’m loving the color on Prada’s model for the SS 2010 campaign, where do I find it? Got a similar nail color by Masglo but on the lipstick front not much luck

Pssst Emanuel Ungaro should have hired Me!!!

Yes 3 exclamation marks for a title of such self serving proportions is quite appropriate as I find it adds to its nonsense you see today I have a serious case of WTF’ness.
I’m catching on today to the Paris shows –very late I’m aware- and there greets me Ungaro’s new collection by Estrella Archs and it was well disappointing to say the least, I was aware of the ruckus caused by the Lindsay Lohan no longer hangs here deal so my assumption was this collection should be the farthest thing from last season, for some reason I assumed the poor designer was taken hostage by the upper managements orders to follow L.L. “guidance” and now that that proved to be a mistake the real creative power behind the brand would take over and what do we have instead? A sequel!
Some of the pieces were good but drowned among the sea of dated clothes that made for the majority of the collection or maybe it was the styling, whatever it was it was not cool…at all. So in reference to the title of this post I know I could have done better as bad as that sounds haha no really I do have a point I’m just trying to get to it so don’t hate me yet, in an era were anyone can suddenly wake up and be a “designer” some actually do have the talent to do it and not just be a well produced public face with real talent in the shadows, sometimes even years of experience does not qualify to lead the charge, it is a delicate balance and so maybe it would be best if perhaps they had an open recruitment to fish someone that has what it takes to be the one in charge that otherwise would not have access to such an opportunity for whatever reasons so in the end I’m not really referring to myself but anyone really because someone out there would have been perfect for this.
Sorry Estrella but really wtf?

One Last Hurrah

Just wonderful but I most admit to being curious as to how McQueen would have chosen to present it, in a way the silhouettes remind me a bit of his last collection as a sequel not a derivation as the inspiration this time was far from Atlantis in old byzantine paintings and their aesthetic maybe the common thread is mythology? One can only guess…

The seal is in the air...

Inspiration is the bread and butter of creation, whether we are creating a dress or a car. It can be found anywhere from the cigarette burned bench at the local park to the smell of a stranger walking past you on a crowded sidewalk, other times it’s a fixed thing like the work of a certain photographer or period in time or a movie.
At times it is so appealing it draws many people towards its influence and when we think of fashion it becomes a bit difficult to discern who got there first. The high street is full of wares “inspired” by high end designers and brands and it is common to hear how no one is truly original. Recently a designer claimed someone much more famous than her borrowed her idea for a collection you may recall it as one of the outfits Lady Gaga wears in her video for Paparazzi, the print was slightly different but the main motif was the same, even the color was the same which is a bit odd as it’s a very distinctive shade, the difference between collections? About 6 years so it is possible said famous designer might have seen it somewhere however I don’t mean to play devil’s advocate but could it not be they reached the same interpretation of what is a very widely known inspiration by pure chance? Other times it is gloriously clear it was a coincidence and that these minds were listening to the same frequency as is the case with Hope hailing from Sweden
Hope_Fall2010@marielscastle.blogspot.com
Hope_Fall2010@marielscastle.blogspot.com

and Alexandre Herchcovitch from Brazil,
Alexandre_Herchcovitch_Fall2010@marielscastle.blogspot.com
Alexandre_Herchcovitch_Fall2010@marielscastle.blogspot.com
within a couple weeks frame both presented a collection inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s (no relation to Ingrid) 1956 movie The Seventh Seal seemingly still retaining the ability to keep audiences spellbound.
Each presentation gave out a different approach to the same theme; Herchcovitch was all about making a theatrical impact with the styling and Hope calmer as if trying to represent the melancholic mood of the main character.
Hope gave each look a stand on its own approach while Herchcovitch was all about developing the stages of the movie but then both have a similar silhouette and similar color palette and the checks print which is an ever-present subject in Bergman’s movie.
This is a cult movie that has probably inspired countless others but the fact that Ann Ringstrand/Stefan Soderberg and Alexandre Herchcovitch were all into it at the same time proofs that sometimes creative individuals can tap into the same resources when in a certain mood and that sometimes what may strike as a blatant rip off can simply be a coincidence.
It’s like when reading a post you think of something cleaver to comment but then someone else has already posted your exact words, it’s a murky area and judgment should not be made lightly unless it’s a frequent occurrence in which case there’s an unrepentant copier in our hands. And as for the new “fuller” attire we’re seeing on the runways these days you can thank the TV gods because a lot of designers are obsessed with Mad Men.
